(Bloomberg) — Eric Rosengren, president of the Boston Fed,
told the Financial Times that he would support the U.S. central
bank announcing next month that it would begin to taper its
monthly asset purchases this fall and eventually halt them by
mid-2022.
* He said that the emergency bond-buying program is ill-suited
for an economy held back by supply constraints
** Urged speedy end to stimulus to avoid debts and inflationary
pressures
* Purchases of Treasuries and agency-backed securities no longer
the right remedy given severe shortages of materials and
workers, he said
** Said in that environment the Fed is having more of an impact
on temporary surges of prices and less on getting back to full
employment and sustainable inflation
* Said rising debt loads fuelled partially by asset purchases
could eventually jeopardize the economy
